I'm sure some people enjoy opera music. I am not one of those people. But hey, don't take my word for it: the opera has been running since the middle ages and any art form so popular is obviously not bad- though maybe it's just a matter of taste?

People who like opera tend to say stuff like this, but obviously opinions differ depending on personal tastes, so I'll leave you to decide for yourselves what you think. However personally, I find the fact that Opera was used in Nazi Germany to be pretty challenging when watching it today. And considering how much Hitler enjoyed Wagner (and what he got up to during Wagner), I would probably go out on a limb here and say that perhaps there are reasons to be a bit cautious. If you do want to watch opera, why not give it a try but from the safety of your own home?

If you don't like opera when watching from your couch, well at least there won't be anyone giving you nasty looks or telling you that you just don't get it! And if that doesn't sell it for you then I'm going to have to ask you to leave my office- I've got a lot more people who want help with this stuff and no time for dabblers.

Opera is really popular- so next time someone suggests doing something 'as an Opera', maybe challenge them on what they mean by that. What will be interesting is whether there's any synergy from using Opera as a lens to understand how some people might feel about other cultures.

Opera is Best? - What You Say?

Do You think Opera Is Best Performing Art?

As opera has seen a decline in popularity as of late (outside of those "Super-fans" whom nobody likes anyways) the least we can do is to help those individuals who are interested! Because, let's face it: Opera isn't just some stuffy old piece that gramps always used to talk about! and if you're not convinced yet than here's an article i've written that should definitely change your mind.

Opera: The Truths Behind Your Father's Old Fashioned Bubble – And How You Can Join In On The Fun!

I don't know about you but I was always taught by my parents to never judge something before actually trying it out myself. Boy were they ever right…Just recently I began exploring the world of opera (after years of my father telling me about it) and I had no idea how much fun I would actually have.

To give you an example of what exactly opera is there are two very important things to remember: one, it's not just some dumb thing that gramps used to talk about; its history exceeds 500 years of tradition and two, It's not just for old people. It's for everyone!

I guess the first question any newbie might ask his or herself when starting out with this hobby is "why?". Isn't it just a bunch of people mumbling? if so then why bother? Well that's part of the beauty behind this piece of art, you see everyone may listen to different types of music…and everyone may have a different opinion about their favorite artists, but when it comes to opera everyone has the same idea of what they believe constitutes as a great piece. There is no picking sides or arguing about who's better and that in itself makes it really easy for anyone to enjoy this immaculate art form.

Now since we've got the wondering out of the way we can finally move on to all the fun stuff: what exactly is opera? well according to Merriam Webster (because I don't want you putting down your X-Box controller) Opera is defined as: "a musical drama usually with a romantic plot and elaborate sets and costumes"

Which once again proves that there isn't just some single type of opera that everyone listens to all the time. You have your comedy opera's, suspenseful opera's and even opera's about cowboys! Maybe it really IS just a bunch of people mumbling but guess what? It doesn't matter because you'll be so invested in figuring out what exactly is going on it won't even be a problem anymore…

I'm not trying to sound biased or anything but I do truly believe that once someone tries out their first piece of classical music they will for sure love it as much as i do. Its just something about those chilling vocals and beautifully composed scores. It makes me feel good inside knowing that there are still some things in this world where everything has been done before and there isn't any room for error. Sure they might not be the most popular things in the world but its nice knowing that they are here.

So go ahead and give it a try! you'll be so glad you did…
